Chives – shallots

🙌🏻 “Kuy Chai” (Chinese chives), commonly known in dishes like chive dumplings, actually has different local names in Thailand: it is called “Hom Paen” in the North, “Phak Paen” in the Northeast, and “Phak Mai Kwat” in the Central region. Although it has a strong, pungent smell that many people may not like, it contains numerous hidden health benefits. Today, the Science Library of the Department of Science Service has gathered its benefits to share with you 🥰

🌿 Chinese chives can be used in a variety of dishes, such as stir-fried chives with eggs, stir-fried chives with tofu, stir-fried chive flowers with pork liver, chive dumplings, and chive-based pork dumplings. In addition, chives are rich in nutrients beneficial to the body, including dietary fiber, beta-carotene, calcium, iron, and phosphorus.

🌿 Medicinal properties of Chinese chives

🪱 Help eliminate parasites in the body, such as threadworms and whipworms
🩸 Help reduce blood sugar and lower blood fat levels
🥠 Help protect and nourish the liver
🚫 Help prevent cancer, fungi, bacteria, and blood clotting
🦾 Help enhance male sexual performance

🌿 Precautions when consuming Chinese chives ‼️

  • People with yin deficiency (e.g., those with fever, sweaty hands and feet at night)
  • People with excess yang conditions or high fever, such as tonsillitis, rhinitis, or middle ear infections
  • People with indigestion or weak digestive systems, who may experience bloating
  • Pregnant women, as chives may stimulate uterine contractions

📌 Chinese chives are considered a “hot” herb, so excessive consumption should be avoided, especially during hot weather or for individuals with excessive internal heat.
