The Ministry of Education and the UNISIST Committee recognized the importance of accurate and comprehensive information for research agencies and the private sector. Therefore, the “Thai National Information System – THAI NATIS” was established to collect, store, and manage data for effective national development. The Cabinet approved the project and authorized its implementation on December 2, 1986, along with the formation of the National Science Information System Steering and Coordination Committee (GOS) to oversee and develop the system in accordance with international standards.
1. National Information Systems – THAI NATIS refers to systems, processes, and activities for collecting, storing, managing, and linking data to effectively support national development in accordance with international standards.
2. National Science Information System – THAI NATIS refers to systems, processes, and activities for collecting, storing, managing, and linking scientific information to effectively support national development in accordance with international standards.

National Science Information System Steering and Coordination Committee
Chaired by a Deputy Prime Minister appointed by the Prime Minister, with members including representatives from relevant government agencies, qualified experts, and chairpersons of six subcommittees for information coordination centers in various fields.
Secretariat Office of the Steering and Coordination Committee
The National Library serves as the Secretariat Office for the National Science Information System Steering and Coordination Committee.
Subcommittee for Coordinating Academic Information Centers
Composed of senior executives from agencies related to information coordination centers, chairpersons of subcommittees, qualified experts, representatives of the International Information System Committee, and officials from the National Library.
